The Hot Wax Salon

Melbourne is well known as being the original breeding-ground of some of our country’s most talented DJs, MCs & producers in breakbeat music. But did you know that up until recently there have been less than a handful of females emerging from the local pack? A little time and hard work from three of the city’s most celebrated DJs has turned things around with one of today’s most talked about new club nites & female DJ crews – known as The Hot Wax Salon.

Established by lilStormer, DJ Ides and lil miSbreaks, The Hot Wax Salon opened for business at the Bunker Lounge in early 2005. Fortnightly shows running til the end of the year saw the club launch itself as the first gig of its kind – gathering together both reputed and up-and-coming DJs & MCs from the breakbeat, drum n bass, booty and electro scenes (with an overall aim to represent all good forms of underground electronic styles at their events).

Together the girls have brought a unique dynamic into the crew with much energy, passion & dedication to their music and the future direction of the Hot Wax nite. They each also manage to stand out as individuals within the overcrowded Melbourne scene:
Ides with nearly 11 years under her belt, having worked closely with legendary places like Purveyors, Out Of Order, Hellfire and most notably, being the longest standing resident at Hot Rod & Rudeboy’s Club Filter; lil miSbreaks is one of the more prominent names currently around town, operating as a regular DJ & party animal for Fraktured, Late Show and Pick Up the Pieces to name but a few. She has shown her spectacular success in the past year with her name attached to most of our local breaks nites; and lilStormer - with her name saying it all - hailed into Melbourne from the UK and in the last three years has been making a strong name for herself as a quality DJ and event manager. She is one of the main minds behind nites such as the Brainstorm sessions @Republika as well as more obscure shows from crews like the Brunswick Massive. Her uncanny ability to embrace a wide variety of styles also comes across with her knack of bringing likeminded people together, her knowledge of music and promoting an invaluable asset to the trio. The Lils give us an extra treat, using the Hot Wax nites to bring us their energetic & big-fun versus sets which should not be missed.
